is being a hub for people to come together, share their thoughts, get to know new people and explore new ideas.
At every opportunity I look to facilitate this and so every so often I will repost this visitors book so that new subscribers can introduce themselves and get to know you through your posts here.
So, please dive in. We would love to get to know you.
Tell us a little about who you are, your passion for learning, and (if you have one) what topics you cover on your Substack.
Thanks for the invitation, Martin! Happy to be part of this community you created!
My name is Alexander and my newsletter, Itty Bitty Inquiries, explores little questions about this strange world we live in, including topics like technology, history, food, culture, and more!
I'm from the UK too, and I'm pretty sure we spell it with only one 'u', unlike humour. Unless Google is pulling a fast one on me, which I wouldn't rule out. 😉
Hello everyone. I stumbled upon this post now. Thank you for doing this, Martin. My name is Sanuj. I'm an internal medicine physician from India but more importantly I'm a dad, husband and a cat dad. I write 'Reflections', which is an educational newsletter primarily on health, fundamentals of personal finance and family.
Hi Martin, thank you for the invitation! I was delighted and humbled when I recently received notification that you now follow my blog! I can only dream of having a thousand subscribers!
Most of my subscribers are people I know, albeit, I am slowly starting to gain followers, such as yourself, who have encountered me on Substack. I write Gene's Bible Blog - a rather unimaginative title I am about to change to The Biblical Imagination. My writing is aimed at lay people who wish to understand the Bible beyond what most sermons and Sunday School lessons allow. My particular emphasis is to help folks grasp the overarching story of the Bible, a feature of contemporary Christianity that is largely, and lamentably, missing. Additionally, I highlight the literary beauty of the story including the use of poetic language, metaphor, imagery and the like. (Consider, for example, the imagery of the Spirit hovering over the dark pre-creational waters of Genesis 1, and again coming hovering over the womb of a young virgin in the opening chapters of the New Testament, suggesting a new creation).
Sadly, the modern church has conditioned her people to read the Bible fundamentally as an instruction manual for life. The focus on reading for this purpose alone, has hamstrung our ability to simply enjoy reading the Bible for what it is, the story of God, a story that continues today - a story we are a part of and that he wishes for us to know.
My recent three-part series titled: Son of God, The Rest of The Story, is a good place to begin for those curious. Additionally, my first few posts on The Biblical Imagination. You can find them at genechristian@substack.com
Happy New Year to everyone, and thanks again, Martin, for the invitation to share.
Great endeavour Gene. There are so many amazing stories in the Bible its true. Looking forward to seeing where you take your substack in the coming years.
Greetings, All, on this 1st day of 2024! Thank you, Martin for the opportunity to introduce myself and my Substack ! I'm James Ron. I write - Before I Forget . . mostly memoir but I also make up stories as I go. I'm in the Bay Area, Northern California. Drop by for a visit - https://jamesron.substack.com/
Hi James. You are very welcome here and thanks for introducing your Substack.
I also live near a busy Airport - Heathrow near London which was also a small airfield during the war. Now a plane takes off every 90 seconds on two of the busiest runways in the world.
Looking forward to chatting again soon in the comments.
Hi everyone :) I’m Christine and I’m writing about my experiences with social anxiety and singing. At the moment my pieces are very personal, with tips on how to overcome a fear of people. I’m exploring voice work as a way to connect with a truth inside, and practice expressing whatever I find without apology. I write about how I navigate feelings around this, as a way to make sense of them and in the hope of finding people that can relate. https://findingthesoundwithin.substack.com
You tackle some really important topics here. I guess we’re all somewhere on this path where we worry about what others think.
In the past I’ve found this debilitating too. Somehow I’ve managed to break out of it. Mostly through necessity but also from realising that life is too short.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read my story, and also sharing your own experience. It's true, I do believe that many struggle with this to varying degrees. I'm often surprised that people who don't necessarily appear to be "shy" say how much they can relate. A fear of social situations and the pressure to be perfect can express in many forms. I also really appreciate the restack, and hope the article reaches readers who find this information empowering. Thank you, Martin.
Hi Martin and ALL the really neat people here on this thread. Thanks Martin for creating this warm welcoming space. Hey I'm born and raised in LA California, now living in the New England area. I have a background in The Arts as an interdisciplnary & visual artist, curator of contemporary art, art space director, public art director etc and really -- I deeply love Art of ALL kinds from all times ever since I was a little kid, especially new art, experimental art and radical art & media -- and writing. I'm developing myself as an Experimental Writer exploring form content style experience u-name-it! My stuff tends to be a edgy satiric campy kitschy adventurous absurd sarcastic profane unclassifiable and genreless. Or just plain weird. But often sweet. Well, I look forward to checking out your work. Join me on my fabulous kooky hayride on LOADED PEN! I'll bring the Zany! https://loadedpen.substack.com/
Hi, I’m Jeanine. Found this thread and saying hello. I began posting mid November and am really excited about the boost it’s given to my writing. Maybe I just needed something new. I write about Mexico, the Maya and the Yucatán on Mexico Soul. For 15 years I lived within 100 miles of 4 major pyramid sites in southern Mexico where I opened a bookstore.
Wrote for various MX websites and newspapers while I studied the Maya. Looking forward to connecting with other travelers, writers, dreamers and sharing experiences. And Happy New Year to all. And again thanks Martin! Love your Substack. You’re an inspiration!
Hey, thanks for creating this space! I'm a bit late to the party, but what's new with me
After a year of burn out and disappointment, I've challenged myself to get back into writing as a creative outlet specifically to give myself (and hopefully others!) something observational to contemplate at the start of each work week. It's not self-help, it's not career-oriented, it's just a friend checking in before we log into our 9-5s.
I am passionate about exploring African problems and possibilities. I write the Startup from Africa. It took me 3 years to find clarity of what I wanted to do. I am open to further learning and deeply engaging with my community.
Hi, everybody! A little late but I just saw this on Notes. Thank you, Martin, for this wonderful opportunity.
I’m Andrei Atanasov and I hail from Bucharest, Romania. I write Practice Space, a newsletter mainly focused on memoir and personal essays. Through the lens of my own experience and life story, I explore universal mysteries like friendship, love, death, isolation and our love of cats. If you’re into memoir that reads like good fiction, I think you’ll like Practice Space!
Thanks for the opportunity to introduce myself and get to know other subscribers who appreciate your work, Martin!
Hi 👋 I’m Wendi, a freelance writer and mental health guide. My “Changing Lives” Substack (wendigordon.substack.com) is about mental health. It’s a mix of honesty about my own life and mental health challenges, inspirational stories and quotes, and coping tips. The coping tips are based on what works for me, research, and recommendations from experts and others I trust.
My Substack webpage has links to my other mental health-related work (website, Depression and Anxiety Survival Kit, mental health bookshop, etc.)
I’m a big fan of your Substack. Brilliant tips I suggest everyone drops by and checks them out. Especially at this time of year we often need all the help we can get.
Good news though. The days are getting longer! The sun is returning. 😎
Hello 👋🏼 My name is Ramona, not sure how I stumbled upon you but I am enjoying your newsletter. I wrote and self published a children’s picture book on collective nouns: Siege of Herons. I am contemplating a move to Substack.
Thanks for including me in this lovely community. I'm Marji. Partner, mom, marketing executive, yogi and newbie writer. My substack is called Life Hacks and Laughs https://marji.substack.com/publish/home and it's short humble observations of life.
Hello everyone. Excited to join the conversation here on Substack. My name is Matthew and I have been in the Navy for 23 years. Retiring next summer and hoping to pursue a new endeavor related to literacy advocacy. Just started my newsletter which is focused on the books that I read and their intersection with life's adventures.
Hi Matthew. Great to have you here. I started Never Stop Learning in Summer 2022. It’s been one of the best things I’ve done. Learned so much over that time. Looking forward to connecting and sharing experiences.
Hi, I'm Raveen. My articles are on various issues, namely social, environmental, political, economic, and mental health issues.
I feel strongly about these issues as well as the urgent need for systemic reform to the current political and economic systems (both in my country and at the global level), in order to solve those issues. Hence, why I feel the need to express my thoughts and feelings through writing.
Hi, I'm Stephanie, and I write about "risk management for regular people," often through a system dynamics lens. Topics span macro risks like climate and AI risks, organizational and operational risks, and personal risk.
I write Nominal News, where I bring economics research and what I learned during my Economics PhD to current and specific social issues.
Almost everything that involves social interactions has probably been discussed either by economists or by economic methods. I believe this knowledge and techniques are very insightful and can help organize our thoughts and ideas. The Economics field is not too good at actually communicating these insights to the many questions people have on various topics, as information and researchers remain siloed. That's why I started https://www.nominalnews.com/
P.S. Really appreciate this idea of creating an opportunity for substackers to introduce themselves and their work!
Thanks for posting. I’ve taken a look through your posts and they are so interesting. Indeed, the field of economics gets a bad wrap sometimes but peel back the surface and there is so much to learn.
I write about everything 😂 But my theme, On the Journey, is symbolic of the idea that life is a long journey and everything is a learning experience. I write about middle age, motherhood, travel, faith, politics, and everything in-between: sarahstyf.substack.com
This is a great idea to help build community on Never Stop Learning and on Substack.
My name is Stephen and I write Technology Should Be Simple (https://www.technologyshouldbesimple.com). I focus on technology use and impact on K12 education, with the occasional tangent. Currently I am publishing a chapter a week for my upcoming book CHOICE: Personalized Learning, Personalized Technology.
It really has. Remote learning and working has accelerated software development crazy fast. Nothing is a single purpose software anymore. They all do several things (not all well). A book or series on that would be very helpful to many people joining the new digital office.
This is an awesome idea Martin thank you for providing the opportunity for everyone to share and find new Substacks and of course to build an active community.
My name is Dylan and I write about Geopolitics and it’s intersections with many aspects of the world that we might not consider directly related to Geopolitics. I review the previous week’s major shifts in Geopolitics every Monday and I’m currently discussing the energy industry and it’s intersection with Geopolitics in my posts on Thursdays.
Hi I'm Jo or Joanne and my substack is about the daily struggle to reclaim time for my creative pursuits. As a retiree, I didn't think it would be this difficult! I am always interested in hearing from others who face the same challenge in finding enough time to execute on all their creative ideas.
Thanks for the idea Martin, it's lovely! I started writing about learning, but have widened it out to be an exploration of my curiosity, of which my zest for learning feels like a subset. So topics are a bit difficult to pin down, but it is prompted by my own reflections on what it is to be a curious person and an avid learner. I do enjoy your posts a lot, and I think there's quite a bit of common ground. https://opsimath.substack.com/
Martin ... brilliant idea for building community. Is this a Substack feature or one of your ideas? Love it enough to steal it.
I'm a life long learner, omni-curious, gratitude advocate, and avid about the possibilities of Substack. Current Substack: https://gratitudemojo.substack.com/ ... coming soon: Substack Gold, simple ways to enhance your Substack.
Martin … found you because you responded to a restack from Sue Ferrera’s Tales from a Wayward Yogini. Love how these things work.
I’m curious about why you started the guest book as a threaded post rather than a regular post with comments. I haven’t used the “chat” or “threaded” post option yet because I don’t understand the advantage of it. As an avid life long learner, I’m delighted to find your Substack and will be exploring it further. I’m in the process of developing a separate Substack to share simple Substack enhancements … like guest books! ;-) You’ve earned a comped subscription with that idea. Are you pinning that post?
Good question. To be honest I hadn’t done one before and wanted to try it out. I wanted the post to be mostly about the comments do it felt like a thread was the most suitable. Seems to work.
We are Paulwyn and Allard, founders of Medoo, a coaching technology startup. On our blog https://blog.medoo.life, we share coaching stories. Covering everything from coach profiles to coaching tools & frameworks to coaching psychology, our goal is to amplify the incredible work of coaches all over the world.
Hey guys , I work as a coach and write a newsletter about connection and mindful living - something that coaching approaches and methods have had a huge influence on. I'd love to know more about Medoo and perhaps how we can collaborate :)
Thanks Joseph! Would love to have an intro chat and discuss how we could collaborate! Would you be okay to send over a email at hey@medoo.life, and we can go from there?
My name is Jani and I write a newletter called Conquering Burnout.
Conquering Burnout is a platform about Burnout Awareness, Prevention, and Recovery.
I'm offering information, tools, and inspiration through my knowledge, first-hand experience, compassion, and holistic approach to health and well-being.
My ultimate goal is to illuminate the topic of burnout, help you to become aware of it, prevent it, and recover if you've been suffering from it.
I'd love to connect with everyone and create a community!
My name is Chris. My Substack is about resilience and adversity (hence the name Hello, Adversity). I wanted a space where I could write about what I have learned on my rare disease journey. I have had to learn how to cultivate resilience, usually through trial and error. Lots of error...
Awesome invitation and grateful for the opportunity Martin !
I started Lead your way as my journal for the leadership journey I'm taking and as a way to pay it forward to the people around me who helped me navigate the intricate leadership endeavor, in the hope it helps other people get insights and feel encouraged and empowered to take on their own leadership challenge.
“Ridgeway’s Notebook” focuses on a ground-up approach to writing history. This Substack seeks to highlight the unchanging nature of airborne warfare told through the experiences of General Matthew Ridgway and the 82nd ABN DIV in World War II. It illustrates some of the similarities between the questions asked by Army officers today and yesterday, and tells some stories and shares some lessons.
So-so. Engagement is not as great as it is on social media, but I think the quality of reader/subscriber is better, and this is a better outlet for thought.
Didn't know I was a polymath all my life until recently. I just thought all human beings are natural Renaissance-level multiverses. Aren't we??
I'm a Czech-born, world-educated literary author and poet. Former journalist for the Hollywood trades. Chocolate judge for the International Chocolate Salon. Helped launch the Google Assistant in France and LatAm. Work on state-level policy for EV charging here in California and run a small content & comms firm. I write The Muse, a transplant from my original author's newsletter, on human ingenuity and creativity in an AI-obsessed world. Soon launching a second Substack wholly unrelated to AI. Awesome to meet you Martin and thank you for this Visitor's Book, brilliant idea!
We could do with some more coherent EV policies here in the UK. It’s a little scatter gun at the moment but things are progressing now. Just over 20% new cars are EV. A start I guess.
It will take some time to establish the right standards and overhaul the infrastructure. It's a massive, complex, world-changing undertaking. How ironic we almost had electric cars in the early 1900s..
Hello ... I write Extra Muros, a Substack for people who wish to gain the benefits of a liberal education while remaining "outside the walls" of our dying universities.
Hola, It took me a while to really figure out what made me tick but when I was able to identify my passion for systems and my love of all topics, I realized I was a Polymath. I now write Polymathic Being which explores counterintuitive insights across all domains and disciplines.
I view being a polymath as an aspiration, not an end state and I use that to challenge me to constantly explore new things and see how they weave together.
I am Roland, and I live in England. I write about the places I visit and like to share something of the history surrounding them. I also have a podcast where I interview some very interesting people.
If they fly into London then a must would be to take in places such as The Tower of London. To see England outside of cities there are many lovely villages with hundreds of years of history along with castles. I am writing about as many of them as I can on my Substack. The Peak District National Park, Derbyshire has some lovely scenery and amazing places to see.
Welcome Kimia! Chaos is good! We quite often talk about career advice here so hopefully that is useful. Please feel free to share your points of view. Great to have you here.

Can I ask where you discovered my Substack? Just out of interest. Thanks.
Why did I do it as a thread?
Good question. To be honest I hadn’t done one before and wanted to try it out. I wanted the post to be mostly about the comments do it felt like a thread was the most suitable. Seems to work.
That makes sense. Thanks.
Hi Joyce. Not a Substack feature, just used the Thread post type. Then I’ve added it to my navigation bar too. Working pretty well so far.
Please steal away. Great to have you on board. Will take a look at your Substack.

Thanks Martin!
Hi Martin, thank you for the opportunity!
My name is Jani and I write a newletter called Conquering Burnout.

Thanks Jani.
Your Substack always has some great tips. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Martin, I appreciate it!
My name is Chris. My Substack is about resilience and adversity (hence the name Hello, Adversity). I wanted a space where I could write about what I have learned on my rare disease journey. I have had to learn how to cultivate resilience, usually through trial and error. Lots of error...

Brilliant. Had a look through your posts and there’s some really useful tips there. Thanks for sharing.
Added it to my recommended Substacks.
Thank you Martin! Really appreciate it.

Looks great Aref.
How long have you been on Substack?
Soon I'll be hitting the first year anniversary ! And it's been a blast !
So, if you love military history - give us a try.
That’s a great niche to be in.
Have you found good growth in subscribers?
So-so. Engagement is not as great as it is on social media, but I think the quality of reader/subscriber is better, and this is a better outlet for thought.
Only time makes me tick :)
A second Substack! Brilliant.
The thing is if you started to plan out a world of petrol cars today people would think you’re crazy.
What a difference a hundred years makes
Hello ... I write Extra Muros, a Substack for people who wish to gain the benefits of a liberal education while remaining "outside the walls" of our dying universities.

That's a very smart bilingual play on words Bruce...!
Thank you, Birgitte. I like to play with my words before I eat them.

Thanks Michael.
Definitely one of my favourite substacks. Thanks for sharing.
Michael's Substack is one of my faves too. ;)
Thank you for this opportunity.
I am Roland, and I live in England. I write about the places I visit and like to share something of the history surrounding them. I also have a podcast where I interview some very interesting people.
Welcome back Roland.
Many of our subscribers are from the US, particularly New York. Where would you recommend visiting first off in the UK?
If they fly into London then a must would be to take in places such as The Tower of London. To see England outside of cities there are many lovely villages with hundreds of years of history along with castles. I am writing about as many of them as I can on my Substack. The Peak District National Park, Derbyshire has some lovely scenery and amazing places to see.
Welcome Kimia! Chaos is good! We quite often talk about career advice here so hopefully that is useful. Please feel free to share your points of view. Great to have you here.
Hi Mike
Great to meet you. I was born 1982 so I think that makes me firmly a millennial. Offspring of the boomers!
