A small investment each day will repay dividends that accumulate across your life. I think this might be my breakthrough journaling moment - time will tell!
Yeah, it's important that every day we look for the positive in life as well as talk to ourselves in a positive way. This is a good daily habit to inculcate.
Thanks Martin this is helpful! I haven't had a chance to listen to this particular Chatterjee podcast yet so it's a great reminder to do so. If you haven't heard it yet Huberman has an excellent one about a different journaling technique that is backed by approx 200 studies! Very powerful.
3 excellent questions. I will restack because I believe we should be asking similar questions regularly. It helps clarify what matters to us and how we want to show up. That's what my work is all about.
To add in minor, regarding the question, “What quality do you want to show the world today?”, for me, the answer always involves checking in with mood/energy. Be well.
The 6 questions are great, I am currently practicing the morning questions albeit a slight variation. I am adding the review questions at the end of the day. I like the video on journaling breaking it up into categories. Discipline is key to success. Thanks, Martin.
I love learning and have enjoyed connecting with some new ideas from your newsletter. Succinct and snappy. I have been a lifelong journal-er and it's been a great tool for me. I've saved all my journals, so now in this stage of life, I'm thinking of doing a deep dive into certain time periods to see if my memory of certain times matches up with what I've written in my journal. When I journal, I write and never looked at it again. So, I'm curious now to see what my 13, 16, 24 year old self was writing back then. Funny, sad, depressing, boring? I'll see soon enough.
Also, Thanks so much for linking to my recent post in Life (un)Learned. Much gratitude Martin.
Enjoyed this article Martin. I am definitely one of those who has struggled with journaling. Appreciate the ideas you provide. Also really enjoyed the articles you linked to this week.
First hour of the day acts as a Rudder in many ways. I’m up at 3-4 am daily so I do my pillars throughout the morning. Which are different than the good Docs.
My pillars are Charts, Research, Reading, Organization and Maintenance. I file eating under my daily intake. Monitor sleep ect also. Any drugs I may be taking ect…
Love getting insight into others morning routines. Quality article.
I journal religiously! This was an excellent article, thank you so much for sharing this information. I love the simplicity yet profundity of the morning questions, brilliantly designed. Evening wrap up is lovely as well, can't wait to incorporate into my regular practice.
Really good one Martin! The gratification question is very important. It's crucial to appreciate what you have before looking towards new things you don't have.

Simple and profound. If we can just do those three things 🙏
Thanks for the nod Martin and to the reminder that daily routine matters so much.

Your roundups are so good!! I love the idea of asking these questions at the start and end of the day.

I am going to come back and read again Martin. It has been great. I got to run and feel I didn't read well.
