Find a Great Podcast - November 2023
If you're looking for a new podcast check out my latest list for inspiration.
It can be really difficult to find a good podcast.
The big podcast players are still to really nail a good suggestion algorithm so finding something to meet your need at that particular moment can be tricky. Each week in Never Stop Learning I try to share something that has inspired me during the past week for you to check out.
But this post is a little different.
Here are my top podcasts for November 2023 that I suggest you try out.
Please feel free to share yours below in the comments for others to find. In each case I’ve shared a particular episode that I enjoyed to get your started.
Right, lets go.
Let’s start with a real favourite of mine at the moment.
Modern Wisdom
You might love this one or hate it. Marmite maybe. Hosted by Chris Williamson who was a contestant on Love Island but don’t let that put you off. Brash at times maybe, he offer his own opinions while interviewing some big guests.
He is a student of the world. Always absorbing new information and bringing an intelligent angle to discussions with high profile guests.
In this interview he talks to Jimmy Carr. He’s a relatively controversial figure himself for pushing the boundaries of comedy at times but he brings a different side to this interview. Deeply thoughtful and intelligent.
I’ve now listened to this one twice!
The Rest is Politics
Hosted by Rory Stewart (ex UK Member of Parliament) and Alistair Campbell (used to be Tony Blair’s Communications Director - think hand to the king in Game of Thrones type of person without the killing!).
They offer a nuanced view of current affairs which is sadly missing from media these days. A great place to get your news from in way that is balanced and non sensationalist. Getting the news from them makes me feel a lot less stressed. They have a way of putting it all in perspective.
So if they start to panic we’re in trouble.
Deep Dive with Ali Abdaal
For those of you who have followed this newsletter for a while you will know I’m a fan of Ali Abdaal. In fact, it was he who did a video about Substack 18 months ago that started my journey to this point.
You will find an array of podcasts here centred around productivity but also around the the creator economy. I think you’ll find something here you’ll enjoy.
The Rest is Politics - Leading
The Rest is Politics (see above) has a sister podcast under the title The Rest is Politics - Leading. Here Rory and Alistair are back but this time interviewing many interesting people from across the world.
This week they interviewed Arnold Schwarzenegger about his life as a weight lifter, film star and now politician.
Their interviews are always illuminating including a lovely wrap up reflective piece at the end where they discuss the interview. Quite often this is when they kick each other for not asking something important!
Feel Better Live More
Finally, we have Feel Better Live More from Dr Rangan Chatterjee. You will see the episode I’ve added here is just over 2 hours long. This seems to be an emerging trend in the podcast world. Joe Rogan has some that last over 3 hours!
The length means these episodes are great if you’re on a long walk or run or just commuting to work. You can dip in and out and cover the episode over a few sittings. Rangan often goes into great detail that can be useful but sometimes a little rambling.
I’d also recommend a recent episode that covered running. Since listening I’ve totally changed my running style and am less tired as a result!
I hope you found this post useful. Please feel free to add your best podcasts in the discussion below.
I've been a fan of Chris and Ragnan for a while now.. Ali rocks for his how to videos. I've yet to dive into his interviews yet.
Thanks for these!
Great! Thanks for the suggestions, I'm definitely checking out a few of these. I like politics, but only a certain flavor so I'm looking forward to the news one.
