One Big Thing: 3 Elements Successful People Do That Will Enable You To Flourish Too
Here are the 3 things to put in place now before you can be successful in life.
The thing is, life happens and sometimes plans don’t work out exactly how you want or expect them to.
For you, the best thing is to lean into life and experience it.
Good and bad. Both will allow you to grow as a person.
You can build resilience systems that will allow you to confront strife head on and without fear.
1. Build relationships you can fall back on
Who is going to be there when life turns in the wrong direction?
You probably already know who those people are that will be there when the worst happens although sometimes it takes a crisis to actually find out. Take time out in the good times to build strong relationships. Give more than you receive and you will find you build a solid network you can rely on.
This will ensure you have a good support network.
2. Build a solid financial base
You don’t need to be a millionaire but by having 3–6 months expenses in cash for emergencies you will have a cushion for any crisis if it hits.
I’m not going to lie, saving money has never been difficult for me.
Some might say I’m tight but I’m really not. I feel I’m generous. But, when it comes to putting money away at the end of the month my Savings Account is the first person to get paid. I get excited about seeing the money build and investments start to make a return.
Building this reserve will give you that fall back if the worse happens and you lose your income. Set up a regular savings account and drip feed a manageable amount in each month. You will be surprised how quickly it builds up.
You will immediately feel more secure to make bolder decisions in your life if you have a solid financial base.
3. Build your personal resilience
I was only 26 when I realised I was not taking care of my body as I should.
Some of the guys from the office had organised a 5 a side football match against another office. At school I was fit. Bad at football, but fit.
A short while into the match I was really struggling.
My legs had turned to jelly and was feeling feint. It had been a few years since I’d don’t any serious exercise like this. I’d sleepwalked into a pretty unhealthy lifestyle.
Things needed to change. From this point onwards I said to myself I would prioritise my health and that’s exactly what I did.
I started running regularly, gradually building up fitness and I’m proud to have maintained that level of fitness to the present day.
Having a good regime of self care through exercise, healthy eating and sleep will give you those foundations. Exercise is about getting outside each day to get the blood pumping.
You don’t need to run a marathon.
A daily walk will give you a good base level fitness. Then, prioritise sleep and ensure what you put in your body is quality.
This may be the third point but if you don’t have your health you’re going to struggle.
This is about getting the foundations in for your mental and physical health.
Building on this base is the next step and the exciting part
As we build out Never Stop Learning we will explore areas of your life where you can start to build out beyond these foundations.
But, never neglect these three areas and they will always be there for you.
Two Recommendations - what to consume this week
1. 9 Stoic Lessons From Running Every Single Day
As I say above, you don’t need to run but having an outlet where you build a habit that’s good for you can really help. Take note of the underlying messages in here.
2. Building Connections: How to Be A Relationship Ninja
Amazing advice about building solid relationships that last.
Three Actions To Take This Week
Here are three things you could try this week:
Map out a plan for building on each of the three areas discussed above.
Think about some relationships from your past that you could rekindle with one quick text. Who knows where that could lead.
In the week ahead, build in a walk before work whether you are working from home or in the office. Get the blood pumping and do something good for your body and mind.

I really enjoyed this post, it's great advice. Regarding the financial step, it's so hard to save nowadays, especially given inflation but it's so important. We really don't know when or what the next crisis will be and we need to have cushions.
The step about health reminds me of something I read from Naval Ravikant, that health comes first. Health is a funny thing because we don't think about it until something threatens it. I've been trying so hard to build systems to get into better health such as eating cleaner and daily exercise. Life always seems to be getting in the way though and my personal vice is my sugar tooth, but hey, there could be worse things.
